Ms. Hartl was employed with the Washington State Apple Commission for more than 10 years, and served toward the end of her tenure as their human resource manager. She was also the manager of Guest Relations at Custer State Park, Black Hills, South Dakota.

A native of Washington State, she grew up on Orcas Island. She is active in the community as a Past President of the Wenatchee Valley Personnel Mangers Group, and a member of the Society of Human Resource Managers. Her interests include hiking, backpacking and downhill skiing with her husband and son.
